Oerlikon Balzers takes possession of new 6,500m² production facility

Oerlikon Balzers is part of the Swiss Oerlikon Group ranking as a world leader in the field of surface solutions, manmade fibre technology and drive and gearbox systems.

Oerlikon Balzers supplies surface technologies that improve the performance and durability of, for example, metallic precision components by reducing friction and supplying additional hardness. The coating centre in Slovakia is one of the 106 Oerlikon coating centres and focuses on solutions for the automotive industry. Oerlikon Balzers operates in 34 countries. Its coating business employs around 4,000 people worldwide. The Oerlikon group itself is present in 37 countries worldwide with 186 sites and employs around 15,000 employees.

Forward-looking attitude

The new Oerlikon Balzersproduction facility in Vel’ká Ida, near Kosiče in eastern Slovakia is located on a 3,7 hectares site neighbouring the already existing 6,000 m2 production facility. This co-location of both facilities generates an important efficiency advantage. The fact that this co-location could be developed illustrates ILD’s forward-looking client emphatic attitude. The 3,7 hectares site also leaves enough space for any possible future expansion of activities on the same site.

6,500m2 extra

The construction of the new and second production building was started-up by ILD in 2017. ILD not only developed the new 6,500m2 facility but also leases it to Oerlikon Balzers.

The new facility encompasses production and storage areas as well as offices and social spaces. One special feature of the building is the very enhanced HVAC-installation*, which fully meets the specific needs and requirements of Oerlikon Balzers. The Vel’ká Ida II project was realised well ahead of schedule, within budget and on program. Oerlikon Balzers is leasing the building for a long term.

Sustain client’s growth

“In 2015 we developed the first facility for Oerlikon Balzers in Vel’ká Ida on a build-to-suit basis”, says Bart Verhavert, partner of ILD. “This 2015 building is also leased to Oerlikon Balzers with a long-term lease.”
The new transaction was made possible thanks to the result of the rapid growth of Oerlikon Balzers’ activities in Slovakia combined with the company’s very good experiences with ILD. “We thank our client for their trust,” says Bart Verhavert. “The handing over of a key is always a very fulfilling moment. And we are always very happy to be able to develop solutions that sustain the rapid growth of our clients.”
